If you see the trends of medals tally and the rate of economic growth of a country, there appears to be a strong correlation. Starting from Japan in the 1980s and the South korea , thereafter, when ever the economic growth of a country is good, medals tally or harvest from the Olympic is also good. Seen in this perspective, there has been sustained economic growth in India for more than three decades but the corresponding number of Olympic medals harvested is less. This olympics in Tokyo could give a pleasant surprise to all, since a lot of extraneous factors could have played to Indian contestants advantage, the highest number of players have qualified to olympics, which shows the attention given to sports in the country. Good support received from the highest echelons of public administration seems to have lifted the spirits of the players. The kind of health bubble within which the Indian contingent was kept, whether this could've been replicated by all the countries is debatable. This could become an advantage to Indian players in Tokyo Olumpic games.
