About one month ago, i visited the IKEA store, at around eight pm in the evening. had vegetable salad, one cookie and a water bottle in the food court. strolled through the stalls . the arrangement of the stalls and exhibits are unlike in the usual furniture stores, IKEA cannot be classified into just a furniture store, but a home furnishing store, would probably suit it well. however transporting the items from the store to house would be a huge task. the culture of personal transport is only now, slowly seeping in India. why would a person buy in a ikea store and ship it to his house at his cost. sometimes, the cost of transport would be more than the actual cost of the goods purchased. i felt that the crowd that comes to IKEA is to use the food court and browse the stalls and get design ideas for purchasing from the local furniture stores or furnishing stores. it's more like a family's weekend trip to a public place. i was surprised to see that self billing system is followed in IKEA. the check out counter is pretty informal
